Overview
This module allows you to set your product catalog based on geographic area. Once configured, products can be assigned to customers manually or with automation (workflows) depending on your integration with gaiia. Products include information about the service and charges like payment strategies, taxes, coverage area and equipment automation.
Nomenclature
Products have different labels for different uses.
- Name: For internal use. If a translation is present, the translation will overwrite the name.
- Slug: Backend code usage only.
- UUID: Backend code usage only. Formatted accordingly to Universal Unique Identifier.
- Translation: This is the customer-facing name and agent-facing name (gaiia). By default, the name is the English translation. Translation can be edited within the product itself. Check this article for more details: Products Translation
- Description: For internal use only, the information is displayed in gaiia to help agents to understand what is the product for.
Product versions
Versions allow you to edit pricing, avoiding creating a brand-new product for a price change, while enabling different versions under the same product. The only difference between versions is the pricing.
Versions can be primary or secondary. By default, a new product version is primary. Being primary means that the product is available to customers by:
- The checkout flow (if applicable).
- A speed modification by the client portal (if applicable).
- A speed modification workflow by gaiia (if applicable).
- A manual change of subscriptions by an agent within gaiia.
If a customer has a product that is not primary anymore, it will be marked as "grandfathered" or "no longer offered" and won't be offered via the channels outlined above.
Add a Product
A product can take different forms. There are 3 types: product, fee and discount.
To create a product, go to Product > +Add product > Select type > Enter new product's information > Review product creation > Confirm.
Product
This is the most common product type. It can use different payment strategies like recurring charges for monthly charges, one-time charges for a piece of equipment, or pre-paid charges if your customers are buying days of usage. Pre-paid products are tiered, meaning that the day value varies with the amount that you buy.
Equipment can be linked to a product to send the required equipment(s) when the customer subscribes to this product.
Fee
A fee is like a product but can only be used for one-time charges and can't be linked to a piece of equipment. Activation fee would be under that type.
Discount
A discount is like a product but has a negative price, giving credit to customers. It can only be a one-time or recurring discount (not tiered) and can't be linked to a piece of equipment
Additional information.
To create an Expiring Subscription, follow this guide: Creating and Using Expiring Subscriptions
All products can be taxable and will apply according to your tax settings.
A coverage area must be added to make the product available to customers within the selected area. To manage coverage areas, you must go to Products > Settings > Coverage areas.
The coverage area type of your choice can be defined (Country, State, County, City, Zip code) to allow all the granularity you need. It is also possible to "import zip code from CSV file" using the template.
Edit a product
Products can be edited at any time. All product settings can be edited. The 2 most common modifications are adding/removing the primary version and changing pricing.
To proceed, go to Product > Click the product to edit > Depending on what you want to edit the path will be a bit different, navigate through subtabs and click either the pencil or ellipsis menu to proceed to changes.
Warning: Changing the product's primary version does NOT change your current customer's subscription. Only new customers will be affected by the change. You can contact us before proceeding so we can help you migrate customers from one product/version to another. We are expecting to deliver The Bulk Pattern feature in Q1 2024. it will allow you to proceed to those changes on autonomously.
Archive product
Products and versions can be archived to keep your library clean.
To archive a product, go to Products > Click ellipsis menu > Archive product. You can find those archived products in the subtab "Archived".
