Overview

In this article, we’ll be reviewing how to configure a Category for your Products, and how they’re used.

Creating categories for products

Categories for products can be located within the Setting section of the product module. The product setting displays categories, Coverage Areas, General Ledger Codes, Translations, and Broadband facts.

Within the categories section, you can easily view all of your categories associated with your products. You can also easily create new product categories by pressing the Add Category button in the top right corner.

Pressing the button will prompt you to a new screen. From here, you’ll have to select the category type (either an Internet Plan or Other).

If you choose Internet Plan, it comes with two pre-set specifications: download and upload speeds. This will allow you to assign the relevant speeds to a new internet plan product when creating a new internet plan.

If you choose the Other category type, there are no pre-set specifications. This means you’re able to add your own to this new category so that when you create your new product and assign this category, it’ll have those fields as well.

Once you have your category type chosen, you can give it a name and a colour to help you stay organized. Once done, click Add and you’ll be able to see your new category!

Using a category

The categories for products get used when creating a Discount or a Fee. During the creation of both, you’ll be prompted to assign a category. Depending on what you’re creating, having the specifications built into the category could be beneficial.

Additionally, within the Discounts and Fees sections, you’ll be able to apply filters in the top right corner. Using this function, you’ll be able to see which products are associated with a specific category.

Deleting a category

At the moment, users are not able to delete product categories after they are created. The rationale behind this is: once a product is associated with a category, that category cannot be deleted. Additionally, once a product is assigned to a customer, that product also cannot be deleted. So it’s rare to need to delete a product or a category.

Since they cannot be deleted manually, you should ensure that the category is configured properly.

In the event you do need to delete a category, gaiia users can open a ticket with gaiia and have the category removed.
