Creating a Technician

Overview

In this article, we’ll be reviewing what a Technician is and how to create one in gaiia.

What is a technician?

A technician is someone who can be assigned to Work Orders and complete a field task at the specified location. These technicians will need to be created as a User within gaiia prior to be created as a technician.

How to create a Technician

To create a technician, as mentioned before, you’ll need to create them as a user within gaiia first. To create a user, read Adding an agent user in gaiia.

Once you have your technician created as a user, you’ll want to assign them the role that grants them some technician permissions. We recommend creating a unique role for your technicians that provides them with access to the Technician Platform.

Then, to create your technician profile for your agent, you will need to navigate to the Technicians tab within the Workforce module. From there, click on [New Technician] in the top right corner.

From here, it’ll show you all of the information you’ll need to populate. At the top, you’ll have to search for the User you’d like to make a Technician. The first name, last name, and email address will be auto-populated based on the information of the user and cannot be adjusted from this field.

You will need to fill in the following information:

  1. Phone Number
  2. Languages 
  3. Employment Status (Part-Time/Full-Time)
  4. Choose the Work Types that this technician knows how to complete. Leaving this empty will mean this technician cannot be assigned to a Work Order.
  5. Choose the coverage areas the technician can complete work in. If they can operate anywhere, you can leave this field blank.
  6. Choose a base location. The base location determines where the technician will be “starting” their day and helps the scheduler calculate travel times and schedule technicians.

Once all of the information is filled out, go ahead and click [Create]. The new technician will now appear in the Technician tab of the Workforce Module.

A technician can only be assigned work orders based on the Work Types they have assigned to their profile.
