Overview

In this article, we’ll be covering how to create a Coverage Area for your products. To learn what a coverage area does, read here.

Creating a Coverage Area

Coverage Areas for products can be located within the Settings section of the Product module. The Product settings display Categories, Coverage Areas, General Ledger Codes, Translations, and Broadband Facts.

Within the Coverage Areas section, you can easily view all of your coverage areas associated with your products. You can also create new product coverage areas by pressing the Add Coverage Area button in the top right corner.

Clicking the button will prompt you to a new screen. From here, you’ll start the coverage area creation process. The first step is naming the coverage area. The typical conventions for this line up with what the coverage area is covering, or the product it’s related to (e.g., Florida or Home Security). Click Next once you’ve input the name.

The next step will be choosing how you would like to upload your coverage area. There are two options here:

  1. Import File: Typically used for larger, more granular areas. You can import a GeoJSON file, a CSV for addresses, or a standard file. In any case, a template is downloadable to ensure they’re structured correctly.
  2. Manual: Typically used for broader areas. You can manually select ZIP codes, Cities, Counties, States, or Countries.

Depending on the option you choose, you’ll be prompted to a new section—one to upload your file and one to manually select the areas.

After the areas have been uploaded or selected, the last step is to Review and Confirm the Coverage Area. If you’re satisfied with the content, go ahead and click Create!

Using a Coverage Area

Coverage Areas get used when creating a Product or a Discount. During the creation of both, you’ll be prompted to add a coverage area. Depending on the Product or Discount you’re creating, you’ll be able to make it exclusively available to a specific area.

Internet Plans, specifically, do require a Coverage Area in order to be displayed on the website.

Deleting a Coverage Area

At the moment, users are not able to delete coverage areas after they are created. The rationale behind this is that once a coverage area is associated with a Product or Discount, deleting the coverage area will impact the availability.

Since coverage areas cannot be deleted, it is important to ensure the coverage area is configured correctly.

In the event that you do require a coverage area to be removed, users can reach out to the gaiia team at support@gaiia.com to have it removed.
