Overview

gaiia’s inventory module offers a wide variety of actions. One of the more frequently used ones is the Move Inventory functionality.

In this article, we’ll be covering what this is, how you can use it, as well as the current restrictions to using this feature.

What is the Move Inventory feature?

The Move Inventory feature allows you to quickly and easily move inventory in bulk, or individual items, between Locations and Zones.

By selecting the desired Location and/or Zone, choosing the model you want to move and uploading a CSV, the movement of inventory is a very simple process.

Moving Inventory in gaiia

To actually move inventory within gaiia, you’ll start by navigating to Inventory > Move Inventory on the left hand side. From there, you’ll be taken to a page like below:

The Move Inventory feature only supports moving one model type at a time.

From here, you’ll have to populate a few values at the top:

  1. New Location - This field is mandatory and will be the location the CPE is being moved to.
  2. New Zone - An optional field if you want to move the CPE into a Zone within that Location.
  3. Manufacturer - Select the Manufacturer of the model you’re moving.
  4. Model - Select the Model you’re moving.

Once that’s done, you’ll then need to decide if you’re moving inventory via a CSV (typically used for bulk movements) or if you’re simply going to manually enter/scan the items that you’re moving.

Moving Inventory via CSV

The process is super straightforward! The CSV option recognizes at least one identifier linked to a piece of CPE. You can download the CSV template which has Identifiers in Cell A1 and expects the identifiers to be listed below it. You only need one per unit, and you’ll create a CSV that looks like the image below:

Once you have the CSV created and downloaded, you can simply drag and drop into the file into the area. gaiia will scan the file to match the units to an existing one in gaiia. In some cases, we’ll throw an error if the unit is a part of a wrong model, can’t be found, etc.. In those cases, simply remove that entry and proceed with the movement of the other units.

Once the file has been successfully uploaded, if you’re good to go, simply click the Move button in the top right corner.

Moving Inventory Manually

Just like the CSV option, this process is also super straightforward! Simply select the “Enter Data Manually” then click the field Click to scan identifier or type item identifier. Once you enter in the value, click Add and gaiia will complete the same check for the unit within gaiia. If everything is good, we’ll add the item to the list. Once you’ve completed the list, in the top right corner, click Move.

And just like that, you’ve mastered moving inventory within gaiia.

Moving Inventory through Zones

The last method of Moving inventory is by moving the Zones themselves. Once a Zone is created, it's not uncommon to have multiple types of CPE associated to it. Since gaiia is limited to only moving one model at a time, it may be easier, in some cases, to move the Zone between Locations.

To complete this, follow the below steps:

  1. Click on the Location that has the Zone currently
  2. Click on the Ellipsis menu on the right hand side of the Zone
  3. Click Edit
  4. Choose a new Location for that Zone
  5. Click Save

Once that's done, that Zone will now be present in the new Location.
