Overview
The featured bundles screen is a dedicated step in checkout that presents curated bundle options to customers before they proceed to building a plan. It gives you control over which bundles are highlighted and how they're displayed, making it easier for customers to choose a package that fits their needs.
In this article, we'll be covering how the featured bundles screen works in checkout, how to configure it in gaiia, and what to check if a bundle can't be featured.
Understand how the featured bundles screen works
When a customer reaches the bundle selection step in checkout, they see a screen displaying your featured bundles. Each bundle card shows:
- Bundle name and description.
- Monthly price.
- Any applicable savings (e.g. a promotional discount applied for the first 12 months).
- Included plans and add-ons.
- A customizable list of key features.
Bundles can be displayed in one of two layouts: side by side (vertical tile) or as a stacked list (horizontal tile). Bundles can also be flagged as Most Popular, which displays a badge to draw customer attention to your preferred option.
At the bottom of the screen, customers can either select a bundle and continue, or choose Skip, build my own plan to proceed without selecting a featured bundle.
The featured bundles screen only appears when your featured bundles configuration is active and at least one of its bundles is available to the customer at their service address. If none of the featured bundles are available to that customer, checkout skips the screen and goes straight to plan selection.
Configure featured bundles
Featured bundles are managed in gaiia under Settings > Checkout - Featured > Featured bundles. Each tenant has a single featured bundles configuration, which holds every bundle you want to feature. Its card shows an "Active" or "Inactive" tag.
Featured bundles can only be activated, configured and deactivated by users with the Checkout > Featured > Edit permission enabled. Without it, the Ellipsis menu on the Featured bundles card is not displayed. Roles are configured separately in each environment, so a permission granted in your sandbox must also be granted in production.
Activate featured bundles
Before you start, make sure the bundles you want to feature already exist in your product catalog. See Understand which bundles can be featured for the requirements.
- Navigate to Featured bundles.
- Open the Ellipsis menu on the Featured bundles card and click
Activate. - Under General information, optionally fill in the Featured section details field. This text appears as a tagline on the featured bundles screen in checkout (e.g. "Combine your services into one plan.").
- Under Bundle plan display, choose a layout:
- Horizontal tile layout (stacked list): displays bundles as a stacked list.
- Vertical tile layout (side-by-side comparison): displays bundles side by side for direct comparison.
- Under Select bundles to appear on the featured page, select a bundle in the Product bundle dropdown. Click
Add bundleto add more. The coverage areas displayed under each selected bundle come from the bundle itself and can't be changed here. To change where a bundle is offered, edit its coverage areas in the product catalog.
- Optionally check Selected by default to pre-select a bundle when the screen loads.
- Drag and drop the bundles, or use their Ellipsis menu, to set the order in which they appear in checkout.
- Optionally, under Mark bundle(s) as Most Popular (optional), select the bundles you want to badge as most popular.
- Click
Save. The Featured bundles card now shows an "Active" tag.
If you can't find the bundle you're looking for in the dropdown, use the Add a new one here link to create a new product bundle first. If the bundle appears with a "Not supported" tag, see Understand which bundles can be featured.
Edit the configuration
- Navigate to Featured bundles.
- Open the Ellipsis menu on the Featured bundles card and click
Configure. - Adjust the featured section details, layout, bundles, order, or Most Popular selection as needed.
- Click
Saveto apply your changes.
Deactivate featured bundles
Deactivating removes the featured bundles screen from checkout and deletes the configuration. To feature bundles again, you'll need to activate and configure it from scratch.
- Navigate to Featured bundles.
- Open the Ellipsis menu on the Featured bundles card and click
Deactivate. - Click
Deactivateto confirm.
Understand which bundles can be featured
A bundle can only be selected in the Product bundle dropdown when every product that triggers it belongs to a product category set up on one of your checkout plan steps (Internet, Mobile phone, Residential phone or Television) under Settings > Checkout - Plans. Bundles that don't meet this requirement appear with a "Not supported" tag and can't be selected. For example, a bundle triggered by a router or an add-on can't be featured.
Bundles that are archived or marked as no longer offered do not appear in the dropdown.
Understand bundle display and coverage areas
Each customer only sees the featured bundles that are available at their service address. A featured bundle is shown to a customer when all of the following are true:
- The bundle is offered at the customer's service address, through the bundle's coverage areas or a bundle assigned to their property.
- The bundle is not marked as no longer offered.
- Every product that triggers the bundle can be ordered by that customer at that address, including the service types they chose at the start of checkout and any account type restrictions on the product.
- Every plan or product the bundle adds is available at that address. Fees and discounts are exempt.
- The bundle doesn't add any percentage-based items or recurring fees.
- The bundle doesn't add two items from the same add-on group when that group only allows one selection.
If multiple featured bundles are available to a customer, all of them appear on the featured screen, in the order set in the configuration.
The Most Popular badge and the Selected by default option are each applied to one bundle only: the first bundle, in display order, that is both flagged and available to the customer. Because different addresses see different bundles, you can flag one bundle per coverage area and each customer will see the badge on the right one.
Troubleshooting
I can't activate featured bundles
If there is no Activate option on the Featured bundles card, your user role is missing the Checkout > Featured > Edit permission. Ask an administrator to add it to your role in the environment you're working in.
My bundle shows as "Not supported"
Compare the product categories of the products that trigger the bundle with the categories set up on your checkout plan steps under Settings > Checkout - Plans. Either move the trigger products to a supported category, or add their category to the relevant plan step. If your sandbox and production environments behave differently, check that the categories match in both.
My featured bundle doesn't appear in checkout
Check that the configuration is "Active", then review the conditions under Understand bundle display and coverage areas for the address you're testing with. Coverage areas are the most common cause: the bundle must be offered at the address, and so must every plan or product it adds.
