Overview
When you filter a table to show exactly what you need, you can keep that setup as a view instead of rebuilding it next time.
In this article, we'll be covering when the Save as view action appears, how to save your current setup as a new view, and what it does and doesn't capture.
Know when Save as view appears
Save as view sits in the filter row and appears whenever your current filters or display options differ from the view you started on.
- On the Default view, you see Reset and Save as view. Your changes are compared against the table's default filters.
- On a custom view, you see Reset, Save, and Save as view. Your changes are compared against that view's saved filters.
On a table with no default filters, Save as view still appears even though Reset and Save do not.
Save your current setup as a new view
- Apply the filters and display options you want.
- Select Save as view in the filter row.
- In the Create a new view form, enter a name for your view. The filters you already applied are filled in for you.
- Save the view.
The new view behaves like any other custom view. It appears in your view list and can be edited or deleted from there.
Choose between Save and Save as view
When you have changed a custom view, the two actions do different things:
- Save updates the view you are on, replacing its saved filters.
- Save as view leaves the original view untouched and creates a second one from your current setup.
Use Save as view when you want a variation of a view you share with colleagues, so their version stays as they expect it.
Know what gets captured
A saved view captures the filters you applied, along with display options that are part of the filter itself.
Column sort order and column order are stored separately from the view and are not captured. This is the same behaviour as creating a view from the view editor.
