In this article, we’ll be reviewing Work Types, their functionality, and how to create them.
What is a Work Type?
A Work Type functions as the structure of a Work Order. Denoting what it will require, how long it’ll take and the procedure associated These can vary from new installs, site surveys or even special repairs.
What does a Work Type do?
Work Types serve three primary functions.
Qualification: Work Orders with a specific Work Type only allows technicians with the appropriate skills to be scheduled for this job. This helps ensure that you’re only sending qualified technicians to complete the work.
Time: Work Types can have a “duration” associated with them. This will help you improve your scheduling with your technicians, keeping in mind how long it takes to complete the Work Order. This also enables reporting by Work Type, meaning you’ll be able to see a report of how long it’s taking to complete these Work Types and if the duration is accurate.
Process: Work Types can have the entire procedure for the job associated with them, allowing the standardization of the process and providing a checklist for the technicians to follow, ensuring steps aren’t missed.
How to create a Work Type
To create a Work Type, you’ll want to open the Settings tab within the Workforce module. This will immediately prompt you to the Work Types section. From there, in the top right corner, you’ll want to click [Add Work Type]
.
This will prompt you to a new page so you can populate the details.
- Name your Work Type
- Select the duration of work
- The durations are pre-defined in 15-minute intervals up to 4 hours
- Input any additional details that won’t be mentioned within the Procedure section
- This information will be displayed above the steps when viewing the Work Type
- When listing the steps within the Procedure section, you will have to name the step, select the type of field you want the Work Type to display, and populate the field with your information or options.
- You will have to do this for each step you have in your Work Type
Once you’ve included all of the details for your work type, click [Create]
, and you’ll be able to view your new work type.
We recommend being as concise as possible when creating your steps, as the information will be viewed on a mobile screen.
How do I delete and edit a Work Type?
To delete a work type, you’ll have to open your work type, not edit it. Once you’re viewing your work type, in the bottom left, select [Delete Work Type]
.
To edit a work type, click on the [ellipsis]
menu on the right-hand side and select Edit. This will allow you to adjust all aspects of your work type. Alternatively, viewing the work type, you’ll be able to click the [Edit]
button in the top right corner.
